As a board game, Monopoly Go often holds colorful events in the game to make up for the single gameplay of the game itself. And it is obvious that this approach is effective. The colorful event themes and generous event rewards have made players fascinated by Monopoly Go for a long time.
Among all the events that are basically single-player, Shutdown is a relatively special event. Because it allows players to advance the progress of the event by attacking each other’s landmarks on the board, to obtain more rewards, including Monopoly Go Cards that most players like.
However, besides the event rewards, although successfully attacking and destroying other people’s landmarks can bring various benefits. If our own landmarks are destroyed, we will also lose a lot. Fortunately, the game provides a shield mechanism to help players deal with this situation.
Therefore, we will introduce you to the information of the shield mechanism and how to use it in Shutdown.
What Is Shutdown Event?
As an applicable event for shields, Shutdown breaks the traditional Monopoly Go board game flow and allows players to interact with each other. During the event, by attacking the city board of friends or random players and destroying their landmarks, you can disrupt their board progress and win yourself a lot of cash and Monopoly Go Stickers.
When you land your token on a railroad tile while participating in the event, Shutdown mini-game will be triggered. You will then be teleported to another player’s city and can start destroying their board and landmarks.
But if you don’t want to attack a certain player, you can also change Shutdown opponent. And doing so can also help you find a better target to attack, or even retaliate against, the player who attacked you last time.
On top of this, if you select revenge option in the event-related menu, you can choose to attack other random players or avenge your landmark being shut down. You can scroll down to see a list of recent attacks and select one to retaliate.
If you choose friends option, you can visit Monopoly Go friends’ cities and attack their landmarks. While these sounds exciting, remember that your friends will be notified after you attack and can retaliate against you later.
How To Utilize Monopoly Go Shield In Shutdown Event?
Shields are an essential game resource in Monopoly Go, especially during a Shutdown event. Players can prevent being attacked by others during a Shutdown event by using a shield as a landmark.
Based on the event mechanism of Shutdown, players are not completely defenseless against attacks. If they have a shield equipped, it can block attacks from others, protect their landmarks, and reduce Monopoly Go Cards that the attacker gains through attacking behaviors.
Therefore, as an attacker, the trick to a successful Shutdown is to destroy the weakest landmarks on the other party’s board, which can be identified by the surrounding smoke. But as a defender, you need to make sure you have equipped your board with enough shields before exiting the game to avoid being attacked by others while offline.
But it is worth noting that the ability of a shield to protect a landmark is limited. A shield can only protect one star in the landmark equipped with it. In addition, a player can only hold a fixed number of shields at a time. If you have more than five shields, the extra shields will automatically become dice. Each shield can only be used once, and a landmark can only be equipped with a maximum of three shields.
How To Get New Shields?
Although the number of uses is limited, for the safety of the landmark, we still recommend that you accumulate as many shields as possible. Fortunately, it is not difficult to obtain shields in the game. There are mainly the following ways:
- Landing on property tiles with shields.
- Finish Quick Win tasks.
- Participate in Monopoly Go events.
- Acquire net worth upgrades via milestones.
About Shield Skins
As an important game prop, shields even have many skins in the game that can be obtained and replaced. The way to obtain these skins is to participate in game events and collect them through tiles.
Among them, the game events are mainly Quick Wins. You can get various rewards by completing Quick Win goals. Not only shield skins, this task can also bring you Monopoly Go dice, sticker packs and other rewards. You can complete the mission by landing on a specific tile, shutting down two or three times, or collecting a certain amount of cash. But it should be noted that the shield is not a fixed reward provided by a Quick Win.
It is easier to collect shield skins from the blocks. Sometimes shield skins are randomly scattered throughout the board, and you can get them when you land on tiles with shields. And when you get a skin, a new shield will appear on another tile. Once you get it, it will automatically equip and protect your landmark from being attacked during Shutdown event.
After getting a shield skin, if you want to change it, just find My Showroom option in the game interface and click on the horizontal line at the top of the screen, then go to the shield menu, which is the second option at the bottom of the screen. This menu will show all your shield skins, and you can choose the one you like to change.
Through the introduction of some characteristics of the shield, I believe you have understood how to use it to protect yourself in Shutdown event. Thank you for reading, I wish you a better gaming experience with the shield in Shutdown event!
